List of Ministries and Guilds at St. Dunstan'sTHE ALTAR GUILD prepares the table for the Eucharist and other services at the church, ensuring that services are conducted in decency, order and beauty for the worship of Almighty God. Altar guild members also care for all of the utensils and linens, including clean-up, laundry and repair. ALTAR FLOWERS are donated for Sunday and special services by members of the parish who may arrange the flowers themselves, purchase them at a florist, or donate the money for them and ask a flower committee person to make arrangements. Flowers are taken to the church by the donor, florist or committee person on Saturday afternoon. Donors may sign up for specific Sundays on the flower calendar in the parish hall. ACOLYTES lead the clergy processional in and out of the church and assist the priest during the service. All church young people from 3rd grade through high school may serve as acolytes, with training held on a periodic basis. CHALICE BEARERS are lay persons who, after study and training, are licensed by the bishop to administer the wine at the Eucharist. LAY CHALICE BEARERS are also lay readers who read the Old Testament lesson, the Epistle, and lead the Prayers of the People. LAY READERS are lay persons licensed by the bishop to read in church. The lay reader usually goes through a period of study before licensing. COLLECTION HELPERS are younger children who assist ushers with the collection. USHERS are scheduled in pairs to greet people at the church door, distribute the Sunday bulletin and take up the collection. GREETERS welcome newcomers and visitors, answer their questions, and introduce them to other parishioners following the service. THE PRAYER CHAIN is activated when any member of the church has an immediate concern and asks the congregation to pray in between regular services. The chain is conducted by telephone, with each participant passing the prayer message/concern on to another. All members are invited to join the chain. THE PRAYER LIST of names of individuals for whom prayers are requested is printed in the Sunday bulletin each week. A name may be added to this list by calling the Rector, the Priest Associate or the Parish Administrator. Names may also be added to the Prayers of the People on Sunday morning by printing the name of the person for whom prayers are asked on the prayer list at the rear of the sanctuary. In addition, members of the congregation may and do add names and petitions spontaneously during the Prayers of the People. |
